Inside the Space | 4: What We’re Building Behind the Scenes

Lately, the work happening behind the scenes at Space Design Collective has felt especially aligned with where the design industry is heading: toward spaces rooted in wellness, emotional connection, and intentional living.

Over the past few months, we’ve had the opportunity to contribute to some incredibly meaningful conversations around biophilic design, neuroaesthetics, and the future of health-centered interiors—conversations that continue to affirm the direction we’re moving both creatively and professionally.

Conversations Around Wellness & Design

Recently, I was featured on the Spirit Speakers podcast for a conversation centered around biophilic design and the powerful relationship between our environments and overall well-being.

In the episode, we explored how the spaces we inhabit can either drain us or deeply nourish us, and how thoughtful shifts in light, texture, plants, natural materials, and sensory experience can transform a home into a true sanctuary for the mind, body, and spirit.

The conversation focused on the emotional and energetic impact of design—something we believe deeply in as a studio.

We also recently participated in the ADAC panel discussion “Applying Neuroaesthetics and Biophilia: Success Stories,” alongside John Ballentine and Kat Blue, moderated by Mike Peterson through the Science in Design program.

The discussion explored how science-backed design principles—including neuroaesthetics and biophilia—are reshaping the way we communicate with clients, approach wellness within interiors, and create spaces designed with health as the primary purpose.

These conversations feel important because they reflect something much larger happening within design right now: a shift away from purely aesthetic spaces and toward environments that genuinely support the people living within them.

What We’re Working on Behind the Scenes

Alongside these conversations and speaking opportunities, our studio has been deeply immersed in several transformative projects.

We currently have two major two-year projects well underway. One is a full gut renovation that has evolved into something far beyond a remodel—a complete reimagining of how the home functions, feels, and supports everyday living. The second is an entirely new custom build we’ve been developing from the ground up with intentionality woven into every detail.

At the same time, we’re actively working on several additional projects, including the creation of a modern organic library space that beautifully blends warmth, texture, and quiet sophistication.

And perhaps most excitingly, one of our recently completed ranch projects was officially photographed—and we cannot wait to share the final imagery. For now, we’re holding onto the anticipation and sharing a few behind-the-scenes glimpses captured while our photographer worked his magic.

There’s something special about seeing a project through the final lens after months (and sometimes years) of collaboration, vision, refinement, and trust.

It’s a reminder that great design is never just about the finished image.

It’s about creating spaces that tell a story, support well-being, and ultimately feel deeply personal to the people who live within them.

Author’s Note

Thank you for taking a moment to step into this space with us. Writing this piece felt like a deep breath — a chance to slow down, reflect, and honor how far we’ve come while opening ourselves to what’s next. Our hope is that Inside the Space becomes a place you return to when you want inspiration, grounding, or simply a reminder that your environment is a powerful part of your story.

We’re grateful you’re here, and we can’t wait to share more of the journey with you.
With intention,
Genna + Erik
